Posted On:06.22.2016

What is the history to your taking up Dance – how did it come into being, your journey(in brief)

My father Nandu Kshirsagar who is a film-maker was doing film with Marathi actress and Kathak Danseuse Sharvari Jamenis 13years back . Seeing my qualities since childhood he wanted to make me an artist. So it was during the film he discussed the path with Sharvari tai and it was that moment he decided to make me pursue my career into this beautiful Dance fraternity named “Kathak”.

An Anujaa Moment !!
So who are your favorites/ Icons/ Role Models in the field of Dance?

As mentioned above , I started with the inspiration in dance looking upto Madhuri Dixit and Sharvari Jamenis. My favourite performers in Kathak are Shrimati Sharadinitai Gole , Smt Prerana Shrimali , Shri Rajendra Gangani and amongst other styles Shri Vaibhav Arekar and Shri Parimal Phadke, Janaki Rangarajan (Bharatnatyam) and Smt Sujata Mohapatra ( Odissi).

Does your Dance carry a message / a theme or a story ..if so can you share more on it…

Yes, it does carry a theme line. Keeping in mind the demand. I Do believe in performing more a story or an idea which portrays some beautiful “Abhinay” skills.

Of all the performances you’ve given, which is your favourite one and why ?

My favourite one is “Nrityagopal” Written and choreographed by Late Guru Pt. Rohinitai Bhate. It is beautifully imbibed with some interesting dialogues and conversations , keeping dance very much alive . I love to enact verbally too as it is in my blood through my parents.

How do rejuvenate your creative insights / get the adrenaline going?

I feel we are always surrounded with and around so many things. Its upto to you how and what you take from it. I love to do attend classes of different dance styles. Be in that environment of dancers and learning from each other not just through dance but a lot more, makes me keep going.

Do you have any interesting fan stories to tell?

Interesting ! OH much interesting since school days. Hahaha ! I had 16 fans in my school. There are many funny acts by these fans of mine which pampered me throughout. You should see my living room, it is filled with little and precious gifts given to me…but I loved it!

Of all the stages in your Dance Journey which has been your most memorable one (learning, practicing, performing, teaching etc) and why ?

All these 4 stages have been very much memorable in my dance journey. I would say the tough part was that I started learning dance very late so practicing hard and catching up that groove of that level was the major part earlier. I never thought that anything won’t b possible for me. I just kept on doing it. And who doesn’t love to perform. It’s the innate expression and energy that the stage holds for any artist who puts his heart and soul into it.All credits to my Guru for grooming so well.

Can you share about some funny incident that happened on-stage / during performance /with you or the other artists / stage members ?

While performing Durga stuti ..I was portraying Durga and fighting with 2 demons.. From that the girl portraying demon fell down I thought she is dead but then after a minute again she got up and started fighting.. and the way she got up and the thought behind that unless the music gets over keep fighting even if you fall or whatever. The fact of falling in a comic way and still fighting like a demon made me laugh onstage
I don’t know whether you get the gist but still.. Funny incidents when enacted is the more you enjoy.

How has the Dance journey been so far for you and what are you looking forward to

The Dance journey has been superb.. It has made me the person whom I am today.. Dedicated , Blooming and Confident.. Look forward to be an established Kathak Artist and Actress.

Do you have any words of advice for youngsters who are thinking of getting into this line ?
Before the performance a Groupie !!
Today’s youth is so talented. They just need proper guidance and channelization. And they will standout the best.
